Most of the route goes on a dirt track along the Žoŭta-Niomanski water channel. There is no traffic here at all, so you can leisurely ride two abreast, enjoying nature. However, for those who are looking for highlights, the route might be boring and monotonous.
Five kilometres from Liubča an asphalt road begins with not intense traffic. Before entering Liubča you will be in the flood plain of Nioman, one of the most revered rivers in Belarus. It also offers a beautiful view of Liubča Castle. Here at the river, you can find great places to go for a swim and to spend the night.
*In the 60s land reclamation was widely spread in Belarus – to release land for agriculture. Now the government has plans for the extraction of peat for production of fuel pellets, and preparation of garden compost. However, environmentalists are strongly against it. Draining the marshes leads to loss of biodiversity, the burning of peat leads to more CO2 emissions into the atmosphere compared to the combustion of natural gas, and draining of swamps leads to emissions of methane – an even more powerful greenhouse gas. Environmentalists and renewable energy experts say that the swamps, lungs of Europe, should be left untouched, and the energy should be obtained by means of wind and solar power plants.
